Check out this great site.
It's been mentioned many times on the OG forums. Just good folks passing on the seeds. I think I remember Campari offered there. http://www.wintersown.org/wseo...hoiceTomatoSASE.html Thanks Tom and Trudi. "We are well met. Long days and pleasant nights."....King |

Well, I fermented and planted the campari seeds (my first time doing either), and as of today, I have six little seedlings! Can't wait for the frost date to pass in another month so I can put these in the ground!
I am just so happy that they all sprouted! |

SuburbanCowgirl,
Isn't that the BEST feeling?!When they start popping up out of the soil!I realize I'm just an ametuer, but I just Love it when anything begins to grow. How long did it take for the seeds to ferment?(since I didn't do that part, smile). Have fun! Take care and God Bless, FernMarie |

In regards to an earlier post, Campari tomatoes do produce seed. I noticed someone had written that they don't which was from another website with info about Camparis. I also fermented some seeds from the actual Campari tomatoes I bought from the local supermarket, and have them growing in my hydroponic system right now. They are all about 2 ft high so far, and each one has about 5 flowers. The catch is that since "Camparis" are hybrids from the Campari company, they won't produce the exact campari tomato that you bought at the store, it will be either one of the parent plants that had been crossed to create the hybrid, so I am anxious to see what happens! BTW, if you have actual hybrid campari seeds from the store you could grow them out, and just clone them and have real hybrid camparis all year round!

In regards to the fermenting of tomato seeds. I do know that some diseases of tomato can be carried over in the seed (at least that is what I was taught while earning my hort. degree). Apparently the fermentation allows the good bacteria to kill the bad during the process. I really don't know whether that is true of not but sure sounds good LOL! I know I prefer to ferment for the benefit of prospective traders who believe in the process and would feel more comfortable making a trade. They don't know whether my tomatoes I saved seed from were diseased or not so I just ferment and nobody has to worry

I would love to try some if you have any seeds left. I saw some in the garden store in packets and didn't know much about it so I didn't get them at the time. Later I saw some of the Campari tomatoes at Sams Club and was sorry I didn't buy the seed. It was labeled as heirloom. The Garden store said they are reordering them, but not sure when they'll get more. If the garden store had them correctly labeled you should be able to grow them from saved seed. |

Judy,
My mothers birthday is next week (4/24) and all she wants is a Campari Tomato plant. After searching the internet I found your entry and wondered if you still had seeds you're willing to part with. She's an excellent gardener and would need however many necessary to grow 4 plants. Gratefully yours, Vicki G. bubblz1117@gmail.com |

I never saw those in the stores because I usually pass the tomato section in winter.
I have never had a good tomato in winter here in NY, so I don't even look in that section. Maybe I missed-out, huh? Judy, I would love to try some seed if still available. Thanks! Vicki J. |

Just a FYI.
While I realize that stocking is different in different supermarkets & different areas of the country, I just returned from my local WalMart here in Culpeper, VA, where they had a 3-tier display of Campari tomatoes. (Needless to say I picked up a container since we LOVE them to pieces until garden tomatoes come in.) I'm guessing that if our local WalMart had them, that our local Giant & Safeway markets probably have them now as well. |

Hi all again!I just wanted to say that, after buying some Big Boy(?)seeds(pkg.)this year, and them not growng very well,I planted Campari's again! And,as last year,I simply took the seeds out of a tomato in it's plastic carton, dried them overnight, and planted them.I already have many little plants sprouting!(It's only been a week or so).Hopefully I'll get plenty like last year. So,if anyone has acess to the actual tomatoes, may I suggest(humbly,as I'm a novice)they try this?Have a great growing season all.
God Bless ps-If someone does not have access to these tomatoes and would like to try seeds like I did,I'll happily send some seeds from my own tomatoes(in my kitchen) to you.Just a thought.... Take care and God Bless, FernMarie |
