Is anyone interested in a strawberry swap? Not sure how well they'll ship... but I was thinking, if we swapped bareroot runners or something??

I have WHITE strawberries. They're very interesting - taste like a pineapple-y strawberry. I tried to research them online and everything says they're only available in France and are rare, etc. I don't believe it as I know a few people here in WA that have them.

Anyway... someone gave them to me on a "u-dig" basis... but I didn't realize they weren't red. Unfortunately, I didn't USE ANY of them this year because I was waiting for them to turn red! LOL I definitely want to keep a lot of them... but they multiply like CRAZY and I've definitely got some to spare (they're jumping the concrete barrier and trying to take over my yard!).

I really want to get some red strawberries. Preferably everbearing variety - or a mix of early, mid & late bearers.

I would love some of your white strawberry runners. I have either and everbearing or late but it makes a lot of runners. I replanted as many as I could fit into extra containers so I have some to trade. Do you have an idea on how to ship them and keep them alive?

I'm not sure. It would be really expensive to send potted plants. I was thinking, if they're wrapped in a damp paper towel, then a plastic bag, and shipped priority mail, I think they'd be ok. Or even tossed dry into a bag of sawdust... that's how they sell them in the stores. What do you think?

Might be better to wait till later into winter when they go more dormant too... ??

I don't know. Maybe now would be good so that they could get established before any hard freezes. I have cut my plants back and I have a few extras to try so if you would like we can try a plant now and see what happens and if the plant dies we can try another later in the season. Email me at kimbledawn(at sign)gmail.com if you want to try this.

Hey!

I have shipped strawberries and Rose Of Sharons, and the wrap in damp paper towel, then plastic wrap or big Ziplocs works great! They are quite light too and Priority shipping worked just fine when I sent them.

I haven't looked at my plants lately but I would be willing to trade too.

My plants were also given to me so I don't know the variety but they produce for a pretty long time here, along with the early to mid season ones that they grow around here.

Let me know...thanks!
