I don't think I'm going to get everything I want out in time. Plus I have seeds of tomatoes, eggplants, etc left over.

How long do you keep them? How do you keep them in storage?

If stored properly, most seeds will be completely viable for well over 10 (yes, TEN) years and more. I'm still getting anywhere from 85% to 100% germination (I keep detailed notes) from tomato/pepper/eggplant/greens/brassica, etc. seeds that I've had for 10-14 years.

Unused & partially used (taped shut) packets are placed in airtight plastic containers or glass jars & then stored in boxes in the closet of a spare bedroom. Dark, cool (not freezing; not hot), & dry are the keys. No garages, basements, or attics.

As far as how long I keep them? I NEVER throw out seed. Period. If in doubt, I'll always sow them - even if it's just in a pot somewhere. If I end up with just a couple of plants, it's still a couple of plants more than I'd have if I'd tossed the old packet in the trash.

For most veggie seeds stored out of direct sunlight, oh say in your sock drawer will most certainly keep till next year. (I expect far longer)

If I know of an exception it is onion seeds, I'd plant them next year but they do fail soonest of any I know of *except*

Now this aint veggie seeds; Tree seeds are MUCH more fickle. Even with freezing I've had precious few germinate at all more than one year old. A general rule is pick 'em keep em moist only long enough to put into cold stratification. Sprout em the following spring.

you can position the store for years, but veggie seeds must not get damp.
So the position would also keep 20 years

SPAM ALERT!! SPAM ALERT!!

I made the mistake of clicking on the above "veggie seeds" highlight & was brought to a manufactured homes website.

Christ Almighty. Now they're not just starting their own stupid threads, they're infiltrating established ones!!!

This particular person should be hung, drawn & quartered!!

Why not a basement where it is cool but not frozen?

Because of the naturally higher humidity. Dry air is a one of a saved seed's best friends.
