ForumsSeed Swap Survey: What seeds do you personally direct-sow outside?
I don't have the good light it takes to successfully start a lot of seeds inside. Therefore, I've been experimenting with starting seed directly outside in the garden bed. This year, my EARLY spring (next weekend, I hope!)OUTSIDE sowing will include poppies, larkspur, calandula, gypsophila, violas, lunaria, nasturtium, shasta daisy, & carrots. I've had success with all of these (except poppies & gypsophila) in past years, sowing the seeds right where I want them to grow. Any other seeds you've planted direct into the garden this early in the year that you had success with?

Zone 5 you say ? you are even more afflicted with garden fever than me ,to try this early. Im in zone 5/6 and last year i was desperate enough to plant my snow peas outside on mar. 15 haha they finally started coming up in late april and never looked like a thing..i got a total of 10 peas off 5 plants. spinach and radish fared the same! I am lucky that my boyfriend is plant crazy too, he built a 6 light rack system for our starts.I think in the long run its cheaper..and happier than ruining lil baby plants etc. That said... I have a starter tray with hyssop, delphinium, gomphrena. and lavender and lupine sitting out in my coldframe/greenhouse as an experiment, we will see how that works. Theres a foot of snow here still and i am itchy to garden outside...good luck ! Grateful
