I fianlly got single old fashioned hollyhocks going, in a deep pink and something is chewing the leaves. I suspected beetles and went critter hunting early in the day. Can see no living crawling thing. Do you have any ideas how to stop the damage? Would love to swap you something for white seeds. End of this season I will gather and label and let you know what I have. Dorothy

Sorry I couldn't tell you who is causing the damage. I know on mine I had all kinds of creatures. I never noticed damage though. I tried not to get close cause I had bees the size of birds. The plant was great though. I was trying to figure what on earth was growing and thriving in winter. It had frost on it a hand full of times and seemed to enjoy it!
I bet the deep pink is wonderful. I'd love to have some along side the white. Please remember me when you get those seeds.

I'd like to try white hollyhocks. I planted mixed doubles this year and have a few seeds left. Also have cosmos (mix of purples and yellows--seed cups got knocked over so they're together Mad), nastutium, larkspur, Mammoth sunflowers, some forget-me-nots, a few Rose Queen cleome.

OOOhhhhy, the seeds came...Thank You, DD! Might even give some to my MIL who said they were too hard to grow and wished me luck (my Chater Doubles are growing nicely, Gert Big Grin). Do you think if I plant some today (rainy, hot, humid) that they might bloom this fall?

gte66, was your offer of the blacks open to others? If so, I'd be interested. I'd only need to know what you're looking for--I may have it.

Jems- I got the seeds just a few weeks ago from the plant and turn around and put more in the ground. Theyve come up but are a little slow moving. So it's hard to say if theyd bloom this year. Mine could just need more water
but if you feel you have enough I say GO FOR IT! Smiler Plant some. And if not you still have some for next year. I know your winter are a lot different than here but like I said before they seemed to like the cold here... although they were in my compost pile...that could of helped in keeping them warm.
