The corn is looking great!!!! I hoed it all today and planted red clover as a gound crop to give it nitrogen and keep the weeds away,More rain last night and more in forecast for wendsday,81 degrees here today, low 80's for the week.
Question,I was going to plant the rest of the corn today BUT we're in the dark of the moon now.I hate to hurry and then get great stalks then no corn or small ears anyone ever planted above groung in the dark of the moon??Next above ground plant date is March 7th and 8th.

We just had a COLD spell, was under a frost alert on wendsday night got down to almost 37,thats the problem here in Florida you can be in the 80's for days this time of year then have a 12- 24 hour cold spell then it's gone, corn seems to be o.k.,we hoed up around everything ,there was a bad storm going on all day and night before heavy rain, winds up to 65 mile an hour,it's over now and we are suppose to be in the 80's again by tomorrow.I'll keep a close eye on it but as of yesterday nothing looked like we got frost just cold.Lost a few pole green beans tho. Seen coon tracks in the garden, dug a hole where i just planted 450 new onion plants,Hubby's going to put 2 low eletric fences all aroung the garden area, but i don't know if that will keep coons out!! going to order about 5#'s of cayanne powder and sprinkle that around I know they don't like that get it into their eyes and mouth and nose.Mabie between the two we can keep them at bay, neighbor says to get a trap, can try that to.

32 degrees is the magic number to look for, long as it stays 33 and up the corn will servive, if you ever get a severe freeze warning, i have hoed the soil all the way up, over the top of corn, totaly barrying live plants, but then the next day raked back soil gently and the corn had made it.

if you get an electric fencer, get one called a weed burner, grass n weeds can ground out the fence and render it usless, a weed burner is hot nuff it will cook through most weeds, a good idea, them coons can be a real pain in the arse, keep up the good work

Do you stil have some seeds left? I didn't start my corn seeds and will wait for your answer. If you send them to me, I will keep only your seeds and make sure there's no cross polination. (I'll do my super sweet next season)
And also, if I do the get seeds, what are my obligations regarding keeping the seeds? Is there a quota I need to send out? Smiler

As of tuesday all the sweet corn is planted,i found 2 mole crickets in the big garden, they got a quick swim in gas!! I guess we will have to spray more nematods!!!! The marigolds won't take effect this season till they grow out and are tilled into the soil, the first batsh is a foot tall now and doing well,we have been into the high 80's now Sunday and Monday we were 89,it rained here last night which will be good but we are WET!!! At one point after that last rain/storm the water was about 1 inch above ground!!! It goes away fast in this heat tho,now were on the cool side for us 70 today, tomorrow back to 80,thats Florida,ya just never know!!
