LOL! My BF asked if mine was corn too. It isn't waist high yet....

The [censored] chipmunks dug up some of my little garlics that were planted from seed! Grrr!

A weed is only a plant you haven't found a use for yet.

Oh now I'm crying, I managed to post a pic of my garlic ...but I put it into the wrong thread. It's in the OTHER garlic disscussion. Who say's I'm too old to be an airhead.
I don't remember how I did it either.

We were blessed this week with some scapes from an organic gardening friend who is trying to go "commercial" in a small way.

Tried the "recipe" suggested: lightly sauteed in olive oil with pasta and fresh parmesian. Added a little butter and some basil. There was nothing left! Mmmm good!

Have been promised some garlic "seed" for both types - and a garlic raising lesson - later in the summer. Gave him this website and he was a happy camper!

Between the wonderful info provided here and Peter's help we should have our own fresh garlic next year - instead of having to buy it. Yippee!

Question - have been cleaning several heads of bought garlic to store in the fridge in oil. How do you get the smell off your hands?

Looking good Gail! There is something special about digging up garlic that you don't get with any other crop, at least for me.
Here we go with the money shots already Big Grin I have a benjamin in my pocket I am saving for my pic, but I have a ways to go Frowner

MOSAK,

Rub your hands on stainless steel, be it the inside of a stainless sink or a stainless "soap" bar that they sell in kitchen stores. That'll take care of the issue for ya.

Thanks TinGull! Use that when doing onions but never thought about trying it for garlic. DUH!

How far "downeast" is Stockton Springs? Think I'm going to have to get out a map.....

You're welcome Smiler SS isn't really downeast...nor is it midcoast. It's right on that border. Right next to Belfast/Searsport.

I do love the money shots! Looking good, Peace Garden!

Littlefrog,
I saw your shot! They are looking great! Do a copy and paste if you would like, and bring your post here!

And YEP!

I still have a few of these for when the time comes to show off the Rocco's aka (Dave's Monster)! They dried nicely after I printed them up!

Pic, warning! Graphic!

Yeah well... now I know how those exaggerated fish stories happen. In my mind they were 4" but the tape measure said 2.5"

lisaann...that is a funny picture! Please send me a dozen or two when they dry! Benjamins are my favorite bills...they go with everything!

Another thing...does anyone know if heat will make garlic start drying down faster? It sure seemed to go quick here during that heat wave the last couple of weeks...the generic grocery store (organic, at least) lost all it's wrappers seemingly overnight! Guess we'll be roasting some of those babies soon.

Peace

Gail
