Barb asked about cleaning garlic - and you two are talking about cleaning language. What type of a crop is that? Big Grin

Well, I'll be! Liz you are so smart! I guess I don't remember if I had a chance to peek at the garlic over the last weekend at all, but last night they were loaded with scapes! I took a picture with my digital camera, but forgot to grab the chord, so it'll have to wait until tomorrow. Big Grin How great is that?

And thanks Lisaann, but I think chicken livers have been around here as long as we've had farmers. Same as chicken feet, gritswurst and beef tongue!

Liz, I keep forgetting to reply about your "corn" garlic. That is very nice looking. I hope the bulbs match the tops! Big Grin

Great news, Daisy! I figured yours and mine would probably start to pop out about the same time. Will look forward to your pix!

Yeah. Me, too. Wink And thanks! Big Grin

Some are "normal" sized, of course. I'm going to have to be really careful harvesting (to keep track of which is which) since there are many varieties in that same planting area. They're all marked... but... can't get overzealous!

Okay Dave!

Shall we dig the softnecks Saturday and post that night? I'm excited and nervous, but, yep friend, let's do it!

Here we go!

Hey, I'm not entered in the softneck catagory. But I might change my mind!

hahahahahaha

Thanks for the link, Dave. I've saved to favorites. Somehow photos help me, even though I've read the garlic "book" posted here twice!

You two are welcome. Barb, that's why we all love pics. We learn from them better than reading about it. Some of us are excellent at giving instructions and details, while others including myself have a hard time explaining some things.
Oh, I forgot! Lisaann I am working most of Saturday cleaning the mountain road where we are racing in 3 weeks. It's supposed to be 95. If I ain't dead, I will do it that evening. Otherwise mine will be Sunday morning before it gets hot. Take pics and I will too. A couple of my susanville are sitting half out like onions and are big! I may enter the softneck, too.

I dug up the elephant garlic early (5:30 am!) this morning...that's it for fall planted stock, but still have these mystery garlics from an unnamed variety gotten from Parks last year...surprise!

Is it OK to pull off the little bulblets around the base of the elephant garlic? I did, but now am wondering if I should have. Those bulbs are scary...frankengarlic!

This is fun!

Peace

Gail

Dave, Oh, I think the instructions are great. It may be more like this: Who could anticipate the questions of a novice like myself? Big Grin

Maggie, great timing on cutting them. They should be tender and by the looks of it, good size. Nice scapes, real snaky Cool

Dave, I pulled up an egg sized walla walla, peeled off the outerleaves and chopped it up like a scallion, then sauteed with the scapes as the basis of my chile. I use canned beans, but oganic, four types, and four types of fresh peppers, three types of fresh tomatoes.

It was very good, the onion flavors sweet and tangy instead of the usual from dried onions.

Thanks for the advice.

Maggie
