First I have to wipe the drooool offa the screen then I can think....I have several feet of snow ice ect on top of my garlic so I won't be seeing any green for awhile. More snow tomorow so would one of you dirt kicking garlic growing people like to get the train up here and SHOOT ME NOW Mad
I didn't get to start seeds in the basement because we're renovating it. So I just have to lie in my bed at night just dreaming about what's in store for me in the garlic department in late August or Sept, at which time I may be confined to a room with fluffy walls and a nice coat that fastens at the back.

Hey Dave, remember you said one of your garlic cloves made more than one sprout? Was it the Spicey Red Korean? Cuz, mine is doing it too! Didn't do it last year? And yes, it is a single clove, not the whole bulb! Smiler

Oh, and what kind of rules could we possibly need for the contest? The biggest wins, Right? Since we won't be able to taste and smell and all that stuff. 3 catagories, hard, soft, elephant. Maybe we can just use a measuring cup or something, to show size? I'm sure you will tell us! Since you are a blue ribbon winner, you will know what to tell the judges to look for. Maybe best cured? Darned if I know?

Well, anyway, here's a pic.

If we do just a 1st place in the 3 categories, plus the people's choice, I think so. I need to call the owner at Territorial to verify that. I will try to do that this week. I don't want to be greedy and go 1st thru 3rd in 3 categories, plus the PC. That would make 10 prizes. I want to be able to ask again next year and get a yes answer, if you know what I mean.
lisaann, my doubles are elephant, maybe some others. I will look, but elephant for sure. Rules? I don't know. Judging by size somehow, I guess. We didn't worry about that last time. Maybe take a pic with your bulb sitting on a ruler or a hundred dollar bill? Big Grin
Okay, if I can be serious for a nano-second, I think we should limit it to one trophy per entrant. So, if you are top dog in the hardneck category and your pic is great, let someone else win the PC award. That seems fair, doesn't it?

OK, mental picture...imagine this.....a 4X5 foot section...block of garlic. About 45 or so, maybe 50 Elephant garlic heads planted neatly. Right now the stalks are about 28 inches high and the bulbs are about as big around as a baseball. Everything looks really healthy and I don't have to worry asbout the crows pulling them up anymore.

I think they are starting to divide. Here in Fl. if we don't get a cold snap or two, the garlic will produce normal size bulbs but won't divide. So these maty have a few that are softball size single bulbs like giant onion.

Are your bulbs exposed, or did you dig down and peek? Sorry, that almost sounds perverted. Excuse me, but your bulbs are exposed Eeker
littelfrog, hang in there. It will thaw, I promise. If it makes you feel any better, it's snowing here and all my daffodils are in full bloom. Hope it doesn't amount to much. Those babies lie down easily. Frowner
