Question....does one want to plant cloves from big heads that might be smaller than huge cloves from smaller heads?

Example...I've got Music that produced decent sized heads, but the cloves are much smaller, and more of them. Then some other Music heads have 2-3 cloves, but they are GIANT cloves. Which would be preferred to plant? The giant cloves I would assume...but didn't know if it mattered that the heads they come from had produced just a couple cloves.

Bigger cloves will have more energy to draw from than smaller ones. My Music is like that. No two bulbs are the same.

Yea, that's crazy. 3 years now with this same Music and I've hardly had bulbs that are alike.

I finally started to make braids yesterday. I have at least 150 to make. Here are the first ones I made.

I agree, those are nice braids. What variety of softneck do you grow for those? Do you have set prices for them, based on number of bulbs or do you go by weight? Just curious, because sometimes the bulbs are big and the braids can weigh a lot.

Thanks . The garlic is Lorz Italian(strong and hot) I also grow Inchillium (Milder pleasant raw). These heirlooms grow well here and have 2 different taste so we grow alot of these and don't grow other softnecks (we have tried alot of them). I usually price by weight(cured weight) . Some braids 1 " heads and some may have 3" heads so pricing the other way wouldn't work. I always braid in multiples of 3 some braids have 9 most have 12 or 15 but i have done longer ones up to about 45. I often add a sprig of dried peppers to the braid and add that to the cost. Some times I add raffia bows . I like to leave mine with the natural look and don't trim the top but do trim the roots. Next week My sister and niece are come over for a braiding party. They will clean and size I will braid. I hope to get alot done that day.

Garlic Lady - those are very nice braids. Nothing quite as eye catching as a nicely manicured bulb.

Hey MH. What purty garlic! So where'd you end up finding the little blue bags? Or bulk netting, whichever...
