Great thread with some awesome pictures. My daughter (who is 6 and claims she is a garlic head) and I were working outside this weekend and checking out what has started growing – particularly our garlic. So yesterday I showed her some of the pics on this thread and she thought they were beautiful (she especially liked Coop4UA’s garlic). Since, she has been pestering me to take a picture of her with “her” garlic (I don’t think any is mine any longer)…

Well, I finally got an opportunity to take a picture of mine. Sorry, y'all will have to turn your head to see it. When I got back inside, the computer refused to rotate the dang thing and the no-see-ums are too bad to go back out to take another! The wench is being cantankerous Big Grin

I just had to take a shot today since all the snow is officially off of the bed (though lots still remains elsewhere) and in case anyone's wondering...that mulch is rockweed from the coast here.

And 50 degrees outside, even cooler!! ...well, warmer I guess. Wink

I was out today, too, and found twice as many that hadn't poked out through the seaweed yet. What an awesome find! I thought I had planted more than what I had seen there, but I can't remember what I had for breakfast, so thinking back to October is a real stretch for me.

tingull, poor remembering is good sometimes. I spotted 3 nice blue hyacinths outside my old garden and was surprised to find them. My lovely wife said they were in the same 'ol place last year, honey Roll Eyes Good idea with the seaweed mulch. You should have the bases covered as far as trace minerals are concerned.

from the NH hills,Z4:

I came home yesterday feeling sad because it was the end of a very happy ski season, and there they were!
Tiny garlic tips, pushing skyward through the chopped leaf mulch! Two days ago, these little tips were hidden under a lot of snow.
It is time for this seasonal turning; the snows of winter are receding and the green shoots of spring are pushing forth through the melting snow. Smiler

Woo Hoo Franeli!

Sorry about the end of the ski season, but sure glad your Garlic is viewable!

If they are up now in zone 4, well, Spring is here! And yep, we don't care how big they are, post a pic! It will be great to see how far along they are by Memorial Day!

Also in the hills of NH - ~4 miles from Franeli, I uncovered my garlic bed last weekend, gave it a dose of compost, and put a row cover over it to protect the young shoots from the deer (until they're big enough to be uninteresting to the deer).

I've got about 115 starts in this year - three varieties. I'll discover in the next week or two how many survived the winter. I planted German White, Music and Ukrainian Red. I like my garlic very strong.

The German White are up the highest so far. The Music are next behind them. As of two days ago (last time I looked), the Reds hadn't peeked out of the soil yet. Maybe they're up now.

I'll try to post a pic this weekend.

Beautiful morning! I was cruising the garden and noticed how huge the Premium Northern White garlic was. I had to take some pics. It is growing next to one of the elephant patches. 20" tall. I may have a contender for my Rocco right here. Big Grin I took a peek in the soil at the bulb, too. Man, it smelled soooo good.

Northern White in front of elephant

Northern White bulb. The stalk is as fat as my thumb

Elephant garlic standing proud! You can see the frost damage to the leaf tips. No biggie.

My main patch, Rocco on left side from closest to you and all the way to the end. It's 14-15" tall. 6 or 7 varieties in the right half. All of the non-local are small compared to Oregon varieties already acclimated to my area.
