This has happened to me, also, several times over the years and best (only partially edumucated) guess is: Sun Scald. It doesn't show up right away. Maybe couple of days later. Happens when you leave new seedlings out in full sun too long, all at once. Instead of a gradual exposure; a little bit longer each day. Doesn't happen to all plants. Maybe some leaves are particularly susceptible. Experience has taught me that tomatoes definitely fall into this category! :_| Any other theories, anyone? gardenz

They should grow just fine. Just that those leaves that are "bleached" will stay that way & may eventually fall off. No big deal! They'll push new, healthier growth. And, buttercups, are your tomatoes planted in the shade or are they just hardening off there? Guess I misunderstood :O If they've been hardening off in shade for all that time, I'd start right away gradually acclimating them to direct sun. Otherwise, they're apt to get a might spindly!! gardenz
