I was thinking other day about when I starting gardening. I keep seeing the same question from newbies sticking out over and over. These question usually revolve Newbies being confused about garden words and terms. So I decide we really should have one thread only about garden terms and words that confuse newbies and new gardeners. If you interest helping
Please add as many garden words and terms if wish to. Please try to keep all unrelated post off this thread since this is rude to newbies that the thread intend to help.

Organic matter:
Organic matter is anything "of the earth"/organic - usually pertains to food stuffs, anything that the earth would naturally break down in the course of time. Most of use use a combination of the following:
grass clippings
dry leaves
vegetarian animal manures
kitchen scraps - no citrus, onion, garlic
okay: coffee grounds (considered green), egg shells
Cover crops (there's another word to define)

"Organic Gardening"

Is this what you were looking for, Grid?
Just the terms, and you are going to define them for new gardeners? Confused

I will stop posting terms now until I know if that was your intention.
Thanks!

Lasagna beds

Browns vs. greens (pretty intuitive, but still some people get confused)

Leaf mold

Cover crops

Side dress / top dress

Compost Tea

Row covers

(Sorry GG - anyone can search by keyword for definitions – I don't have it in me to do that right now)

I was poking around Gman,

And this site looks like a great spot to just type in the word and get a definition and spelling and all that. You could bookmark it or something. Whatcha think?

http://www.garden.org/dictionary/

That way you won't have to spend all that time typing in all the definitions! Big Grin

You could just cut and paste.

Think I'll go try it and see how it works.

Boy, I hate that site. Look at what I got for hole:

http://www.garden.org/dictionary/index.php

I didn't get anything for browns. hahahahah

Waaayy too funny! That will teach me.
