If you want a really deer-free yard, then I'd suggest moving! And depending on where in the country you go, there'll always be some critter that's gonna see your plants as a All-They-Can-Eat free buffet! SERIOUSLY,I have tried most of the garlic, red pepper, human hair, fox urine, home made derrerents and some store bought. But, the BEST was using bars of the strongest smelling, most perfumed soap I could find. (I use Irish Spring and Suave). Cut em in half, wrap in onion (mesh) bags, attach em to bamboo stakes and stick em right in amongst plants I'm trying to protect. Make sure top of stake (soap) is about 3ft off the ground. That's where deer noses usually are. I also had some minor success using a product called "Deer Off!". (Good news/bad news: it did help a little, but it smells like rotten eggs!) Unless they're descimating your entire crop, try to accept the fact that they were there before you and you're the invader. Sure, I've cried a little when one of my plants had all (not some) of its new growth chewed :_|. But, I just cut it back. Eventually it sprouted new growth and bloomed a little later than usual is all. Got a positive lesson from that experience though: I learned that this was yet another plant I had to protect next season before any damage was done. I'm incorrigible: I view everything as a learning experience!! (In reviewing my "final" post saw that Ecologicals beat me to the punch with the soap suggestion. Ah, well...........Great Minds Think Alike!!!!!!) B-) Like the radio suggestion. What about keeping it tuned to Rush Limbaugh? X-( God knows that'd keep ME away!

I had a problem with them eating my purple hull and creme peas last year. I tried soap, sweaty t shirts tied around here and there. Nothing. Finally, I stuck several of my 2 year old's soiled wet diapers on sticks in several places about the pea patch. No more deer. The came in but wouldnt go near the peas.
Am I in my cabin dreaming? Or are you really scheming, to take my ship away from me? You better think about it. I just cant live without it. So please dont take my ship from me!!!

I had a real problem with deer getting into my veggie garden, right before harvesting time every year! I have tried many, many remedies for it too. But, 2 1/2 years ago, I read an article on the soap trick in the garden, and decided to try it. It really worked wonders! I have been told that it HAS to be "deodorant" soap, as that has the smell the deer don't like. And, just for insurance measures, last year I installed an old mailbox on a post right in the center of the garden. I put a radio in it..... and I tuned it into a talk show and left it on all night long. I didn't have one single deer in the garden all last year! The combination of the soap on stakes all around the perimeter of the garden, plus the radio "talking" all night was enough to do the trick. I hope this helps you.

farmhound! I stole your idea and patented it with some minor adjustments. I placed the diapers in a part mesh, part wood box I call the STINK BOX! It seems to be working just fine. Thanks for the idea, wanna split the profits? I currently bring in 90% strange looks when I talk about the STINK BOX, which I would be happy to share as your part of the bank. I guess I'm going to have to change my tagline now -Bada
