I live in Los Angeles and am container gardening (so far so good - tomatoes, carrots, lettuce). Yesterday I planted three cantaloupes in a trough-like container. I'm planning to trellis them and support the fruits somehow since space is limited. My question is, what steps should I be taking to control pests? I spray my tomatos with soapy water every now and then, and they look great. However, I lost six bean plants to somebody who wasn't scared off by the soap, and I'm worried that the same could happen to the cantaloupes. Any suggestions? Does anyone know of any sites with info about melons? Thanks in advance.
