With the stupid mule deer devestating my peas and beans, I have to find something to be happy about. So far she's left the tomatoes, squash, cucumbers, melons, tomatillos, peppers, eggplant and all those things alone. But the happy surprise of the summer is how well the walla walla's are doing. Last year I grew from sets and the onions never got larger than eggs. I gave my neighbor an onion over the fence yesterday and it was very big, size of an apple. These were grown from sets, too, but specific walla walla's, rather than a clone. I have a flower on a plant that overwintered which I'll try to get seed from for next year, but it's nice to see something thriving.

Maters look good, too, lots of little fruits already with six weeks left until the very earliest frost date. Also have cukage and zukage happening, although the patty pan and short season acorn aren't blooming yet.

This time of year the garden should be low maintenance, high joy, but Mildred has made that challenging.

I very much feel your pain! So I am thrilled that you are getting some goodies.

Oh, and yippie about your snake too. (I really like snakes).

Well, at least Millie Mule hasn't eaten ALL your food! Glad you have something left to eat. Smiler
