There are tons of us here that grow tomatoes and I thought it could be fun. There are lots of ways to do it and it will give those non garlicheads a chance to participate in some fun here. Let me know what you think. We did this over on pharmer phil's site and it was a blast. Some had more fun than others. Squirrels ran off with some of the contest maters. Frowner I will volunteer to help coordinate, but I need a couple helpers. Any volunteers, assuming this is a go? I will need judges for the final say on who wins. I won't enter(officially)if I am involved in judging. Doesn't mean I won't grow a monster just to beat you guys, even if it doesn't count Big Grin

Sounds like great fun. I have one on my counter right now that is a monster! It's a yellow persimmon, just starting to turn nicely.

Since we are moving, I'm hoping the soil there is as good as it is here. Only 15 miles and the same great Grundy soil.

I only grow Big Beef ,and they always outproduce and outsize anything else, so I can't join, because it would not be fair to the rest of you guys! Big Grin

Well,I grew Black krim this year, too, and they can stand up to the challenge, but die an early death here.

Well, the size of the tomato never mattered to me, as long as it tasted good. Sorry, Oh2, I don't think I'll be in this contest.

Hey, do I get a handicap for altitude and short season? Maybe I can just add 8 ounces to whatever I grow?

Okay boys and girls, new rule#1!
There are no excuses. Connie, it's not about size, right? besides, some of the best tasting tomatoes we have grown also won a tomato contest. lisaann, I challenge you to beat my ol'yellow tomato next summer. You know what you can do with your Big Beef. Big Grin I told my wife about this and she said to find 3 judges and just join the contest. So, I am in.

No powers to be, just crazy gardeners. She is welcome! The more the merrier. I garden with my grandkids and we have fun. I am so glad my mom's father was a farmer. I got to hang with grampa in his garden after he moved into town and must have learned a few things. How old is she?
