MHG, did you have a bunch of fog? Man, driving from Minneapolis to Fargo last night was awful! I half expected to get caught up in one of those multi-car pile-ups that makes the national news. But awfully glad I didn't! Got home, picked up Max, let him out in the backyard. Somehow the pile of logs from neighbor's yard (vacant for nearly a year) has migrated downhill into my yard. Not the whole pile, but a dozen or so large pieces. Too heavy for me to lift. Can't see that they did any damage, but ... didn't I have enough else to deal with this spring? Of course Max just barked like crazy at the whole mess. If I could bark, I think I would have joined in. Bummer of a weekend.

Liz, I would me tempted, not to bark, but to yell "MINE". (Unless you can call the owners and tell them to get them) I would either burn them, or turn them into some great garden project. I was just thinking of some logs we have just sitting around. I was wondering if I could make planters out of them...or if they would rot way too fast. Perhaps if I used them as planters, but tossed a cheap plastic pot in there to actually hold the spoil. Of course, it would still get damp between the pot and the wood. *hummm* Anyone try that?

Hi Alaskan. I believe the place has been abandoned by the owner, a military guy who hasn't been around in close to a year. The place is sitting vacant. Before he moved, he cut down a huge shade tree and stacked a lot of the wood between his place and mine; he is uphill from me. Most of the pieces look like they rolled down the divide into my yard, and from the look of things, the most likely culprits were kids using the hill / drop-off for an impromptu sledding adventure. The bad part is they are very large pieces and too heavy for me to move. By daylight I can see there are more than I originally thought. I don't need the wood as I already have a bunch stacked out front; more than I'm likely to use with my measly little fireplace that sucks out more warm air than it provides... Sorry. Just in one of those moods where barking was the best solution I could think of. MH, I hope you fare better today in the weather dept.

It's a beautiful day here; crisp and clear. I've already ground the day's garlic, cleaned the pellet burner, and potted my Stinking Purple Flower bulb. I'm sorry to hear about your wood problem. If you know who the culprits are, offer to trade a batch of freshly baked cookies if they will put the wood back where it was. Might even work if they aren't the offenders.
