It was quite the adventure! My guest was most gracious and quite fascinating. Her seminar on Healthy Traditional Diets was well-attended and she left a lot of inspiration behind. We had an awesome pot-luck on Saturday night -- at someone else's house. I took my cream of (home-canned) tomato and cabbage soup and some dilly green beans. Max was especially glad "the nice lady" came to visit. He's now getting little pieces of liverwurst as a special treat (for B-12). Turns out Max loves liver! Woof to Lucky. The truck is still there. I did go out this evening and stake out where the new beds will go. Hopefully the weather will be good enough this weekend that I can get the wood "ready to use" and build the beds. But from the look of things, I'm not holding my breath. I'm still recuperating. But at least the house is clean. Thanks for asking.

why lisaann, thanks for asking! Baby in waiting is kicking...pretty quiet during the day, but tried it's best to keep me up all night last night. The kids have had lots of fun reading the new books...so far it looks like the big hit was "Wind in the Willows" and a book all about money (how money works, how to save money, write checks, that kind of stuff). #1 was a TOTAL pill today, which actually turned out to be great, since DH had decided to take the day off. So every time there was fussing I got to say, "go to Papa" instead of having to figure out how to deal with it. Papa was so peeved at the fussing that he made #1 go spend some times shoveling the snow off of my garden! Yippy! I am looking at my little seedlings and starting to go "OH NO!" A few of them are getting....uh.....big. As in, just how many 4 inch pots can I cram into my house until May 7th or so?????? It simply boggles the mind. I am also starting to have slight stress over the number of plants that I mail ordered.......only a *few* of them have a place to go. As in I need to put up moose fence, make beds, terrace that slope.....and I still have 3 feet of snow. I think someone went crazy!

In between putting my hair in curlers, watching my soaps, doing all the laundry and dusting, I don't have any time for gardening chit chat Actually I did look at my garlic for doubles. My own Rocco has a few and so does the elephant, but no others. I am considering removing all the red raspberries. They are showing up all over my old garden and I don't want a repeat in the new one. I will check the price of the bamboo barrier before giving them away. Here's a true lunchtime story from today. I let all the dogs out of jail to pee when I take my lunch break every day. We were hanging out by the old garden when my big male Tank lets out his big dog bark, startles all of us and he takes off running toward my neighbor's. I spun around to see and there were 6 turkeys on my lawn, one of them a big 'ol tom. The rest of the pack weren't far behind Tank. 3 of the birds flew over the 6 foot fence and the other 3 somehow made it through the fence to safety. These were pretty big birds and the holes in the fence are only 2" by 4". How did they do that? I doubt they will be back. Bummer, because we like watching them cruise around with their babies in the fields behind us. I guess they liked my grass better.Gotta go find my bonbons for the next soap
Muddy knees David! Compost is my friend. Every day I enroll in gardening school. Some days it feels like kindergarten!

liz, with moose, a 6 foot fence is usually OK, as long as it is sturdy. Since they can and will rear up, swing their front feet over, and then smush down a chain link fence. But an 8 foot fence out of concrete reinforcing wire is full proof. Well, as long as the snow doesn't get too deep....but unless the snow is *SUPER* dense, the moose sink though. That is why their legs are so long....and why when the snow gets really deep, then move down to the lower elevations where there is less snow. It is also why you have to be so careful when driving in the winter....the moose walk where ever it has been plowed, like roads, since it is so much easier than going through deep snow. I have a very sturdy 6 foot fence around my apple trees (which are VERY tasty for moose). And they haven't jumped over yet...but I do try to keep an eye on it. Around my 'landscaping trees' which I can't see as well from the house, I have 8 foot concrete reinforcing wire.

Nope the Drac. never came up. Got a heavy wet snow today, didn't stick around long, mostly melted already, but everything is wet and muddy again. Calling for highs in the 60's Friday and Sat. I'm proud to say nothing is sprouted in the greenhouse yet, but with the next warm-up I expect to start seeing things starting. It's right on schedule. But the sweetpotaoes I have in the house have gone crazy. I started them a wee bit too early, me thinks..... Shot another possum. Warmer weather has the chickens starting to lay again. Garlics are coming along nicely, but still no Rocco or Big E. Read an industry news last nite that said that even if gas prices dropped back down to $.50/gallon, food prices wouldn't come back down. The food industry has learned from the oil companies; once they get you conditioned to pay......you will.
If you can grow food, you have a cosmic obligation to feed those that can't.

So that's why I've got all this extra time on my hands! I've been forgetting to curl my hair... Alaskan: Well, then good luck with the moose fence! Post a pic if you can. I'd like to see that 8' concrete reinforcing wire fence. quote: Originally posted by MooreHaven Gardens: Calling for highs in the 60's Friday and Sat. Originally they were calling for 50's here this weekend. Last forecast I saw for Sat was high of 40 with rain / snow showers. We can use the moisture of course. But preferably not this weekend when I've got time planned to build the new beds!!!

liz, well my garden fence is only 2 feet tall right now...and that 8 foot fence is maybe 4 feet. So they don't look that impressive.....I will wait until the snow melts. And with the snow that deep...all the moose have left me...but don't worry, they will be back this spring, to eat any yummy plants I forget to protect!

Started typing 3:44pm eastern. Let's see how I do. I cut the tip of my finger off today at work, BOO HOO! On a fixed saw blade. Did it before, back in May 2003, but at least I had a flap to sew back on. This time I took it completely off! Darn. Doctor thinks some of it might grow back, since it's the fatty part. (didn't know I had a fatty part on this whole body of mine HaHa) Or at least the v shaped part of the cut might fill in some, but now I have a flat Middle finger. BOO HOO. No Bone involved, just meat! But, on the bright side, now I can give everyone the finger and smile! They'll never know what I mean! HaHaHaHaHa Back to wiping my butt with my right hand. Good Grief! I'm left handed for those procedures! I can feel every heart beat in that puppy right now! BOO HOO! Ya know what, I can still type good, since I only use two fingers anyway! Woo Hoo. Wonder how long I can keep this bandage clean? Good thing I potted up what needed potted up last night! Here is a BOO BOO - BOO HOO picture! Let's have a pity party! Yep, I do know worse things have happened to nicer people!
