Why would anyone yell at you for this mat method? I don't get it. It works just fine. No moisture gets to the mat, heat goes through the tray and all are happy. Next time, send them to me and I will take care of the problem. My name is Guido! Roll Eyes

my guess you have the second bed in a slightly more sheltered spot and maybe the ground temp, is behind the first one?[/QUOTE]
Actually both beds are identical and next to each other. I doubt that's it. It will be interesting to see if the ones without stalks develop any and if they are ready to dig up at different times. May have something to add to the elephant diary Big Grin

Stopped raining! Sun is OUT! It's a beautiful day now!

SO, I went out and took a pic of some of my Garlic. It's a growing, but Guess what Dave, I think the Metachi is going to be my biggest here. Yours is closest to the black thing and not as tall as the others now. It used to be the tallest one and the fattest stalk wise, but now the spanish rosa, and metachi have passed the monster by.

VS is still kinda yellow mottled, but I have decided that is just how they are. Okay pic:

Looking good. See how much wider the leaves are on the Rocco than other varieties? I think that is one of the cool things about it. Bluish color and BIG leaves Big Grin

Guess what today is?

DRUM ROLL PLEASE!

FRIDAY, THANK YOU VERY MUCH!

Shoo, it takes longer and longer, every week for it to get here!

So, what's up for the weekend guys and gals?

Are ya gonna get it done and have some fun?

I'm in an extremely good mood right this minute! I'm a million times happier than I was last night at this time, and looking forward to a fantastic weekend.

Uncle will visit in the Am, and we will dish the dirt, then I shall go out and pick some stones out of the beds. We just got another inch of rain here today, so, yep, the stones are rising to the surface!

Then I must pluck Maple tree helicopter seedlings! Grrrr! I hate that!

Other than that, well, guess, not much on my list of things to do, because, well, see, I live in Maryland, and all my stuff is out there and growing, and yep, HAPPY GIRL here!

Hit me up friends, want to share my happiness with ya all tonight! And want you to share your happiness with me!

So much fun to be had!

And my Garlic is rocking, by the way! Woo Hoo!

Good news for you lisa ann! I am so glad I listened to MHG about not planting my tomatoes. They weren't ready. Even though I have been hardening them off, it has been cloudy until 3 days ago. Today was 98 here. Old record was 86. Temps start dropping tomorrow to 80, then 70s for a while. So, guess what I am doing this weekend? Yeehaw! First ones in the ground are contest maters, oh yeah Big Grin

Oh ARGGGGGGHHHHHHH! Tomatoes! I put them outside, they wilt -- no matter what the conditions. (This has been going on for about a week, with the exception of last Saturday.) I bring them inside, give 'em a little drink, and they perk right up. THEY'RE WIMPS!!!

Now here's the real question. It's mostly the "first started" (i.e. old timers) that wilt. The "younger" ones hold up better. So I'm wondering if, even though they're in 6" pots, if the pot isn't large enough to hold as much moisture as they need. In which case, if I go ahead and plant them (with wind and sun protection), then water 'em really well, perhaps just perhaps they'll heel in. Either that or they'll die. What a dilemma!

Fortunately, I don't have to decide until Sunday. Will be at "Downtown Crazy Days" helping to promote new downtown farmer's market all day tomorrow. Hoping to sell some herb plants. They've spent the last 2 days outside and have held up just fine. Cool

80 today here. (You remember that 4" of snow we had last Friday night, right?)

Ok, thanks LisaAnn. I'll put them in tomorrow. We don't have the actual market today -- it's more like a sidewalk sale for downtown people. Just me and one other vendor, and I'm not sure they'll have much to sell yet. Mostly a PR day.

I just had a bunch of extra herb seeds so figured why not start 'em? Started 3/23. Basil and sage looking good. Learned about planting thyme and oregano you need to plant a miniature patch, not just a seed or two. So will remember that for next time. Rosemary isn't big enough to sell yet, but looks healthy enough. Will keep growing it and save to put out in early July when the market actually opens and all I have on the table is lettuce (if I'm lucky enough that the lettuce grows).

Ok, will report back later!

Update: Winds gusting to nearly 50 mph. Did our best to protect plants, but we were in an exposed area and they were just getting whipped. So ... we packed it in! Guess I get to cut the grass today after all. Frowner

It's a bueatiful morning to take a deep breath, enjoy the sunrise, and work the kinks out of my back while I enjoy my morning coffee. Hopefully tonite I'll make it to the bed before falling asleep in my chair like last nite.
I had to fight the wind yesterday too. But still managed to get some mowing and tilling done, then 650 spagehti squash laid out and planted. Today will be more of the same. Hoping to get the acorn and butternut in the ground as they are talking possible rain this next week.
Had to spend Friday in the city ( not my favorite place to be ), came home to an overheated grnhs. and a few hundred tomato, egg plants, cucumbers, and pepper plants flopped over from heat exhaustion. Spent the next few hours doing some much needed watering of transplant trays. They all were upright and happy again yesterday morning. My L.A.F.D. has passed now so maybe I can get caught up enough to start setting them out this next week at nite after work.
If I don't make it to morning chat, it's cause I'm already crawling in the dirt. Smiler
