That does sound good! I made sort of a beef - noodle - cabbage - mushroom - tomato gravy - stew. (Who needs a recipe?)

And then ...

Drumroll please ...

Started the onions! The 2008 gardening season has officially begun! Yee-ha! Big Grin

We've got a -17 windchill tonight. Luckily we don't have the snow and ice like Mumsey's got. Yikes! We haven't had weather that bad since my son was born thirteen years ago. But it seems oh so cold tonight. The wind is out of the southeast and it's too cold and drafty to be sitting in the living room, so I'm on the computer. Smiler

So Mumsey...you just mix it up & plop spoonfuls into the simmering broth, cover for 20 minutes, & PRESTO?

I love dumplings, but never heard of cooking them with noodles. Confused

We've got nasty weather too...so bitterly cold & gusting! It's 4 degrees now, but wind chill is -19!

I left work about 8:15 tonight on a north-south road & it was not good, but I was in a white-out last year that was horrible, & nearly caused me to have a heart attack!

I went about 30-35 the whole way tonight & it took about double the normal time because lots of areas were just pure glazed-over hard snow & ice. Very scary to hit those parts if yer going any faster!

Hope everyone's safe & warm tonight! Smiler

Beansprout, yup that's what you do. These are so light and fluffy and I'm guessing lower fat and cholesterol. They can be made into muffins too, but I prefer the dumplings.

Wow, you drove pretty fast on that ice! I was only able to crawl along at 20mph! In the 15 years of driving to work, I can say it's the worst I've ever seen.

And oh goody, another 4-7 inches today and tonight

Thanks Mumsey!

Actually, there were "tracks" in the road that were clear...the icy parts were on the sides & in the middle, so you just had to pay attention & NOT drift over there!

My daughter didn't have school today, but has to go to her college class later, right here in town. She said it was -11 this morning, but now it's 14 here, and -4 with the wind. High today is 17, and tomorrow it's 19...Woo-Hoo...heat wave!
It was really bitter yesterday & last night!

It's not snowing here now & I think we're just gonna get flurries, but it's pretty cold! The sun is shining now & then, which always helps! Cool

Thanks for the dumpling recipe Mumsey! Sounds great with noodles, which I assume helps keep the dumplings up there on the top? Or am I thinking this all wrong? Never did them with noodles either.

It was 7º here this morning. Heck, I guess that would have had you guys out in your tie-dyed speedos! Big Grin I couldn't stand it. Still don't know how you guys can take that cold.

Liz,

Glad to hear your onions are potted. Did you get out there yesterday and plow your drive way before the next snow hit? Must have been bundled up so much, you could barely sit on the tractor! Probably tied your scarf to the steering wheel to stay up! Big Grin Now I do wish I had a pic of that!

Now that's a great idea! My nephews would probably like a picture of that, too.

Yep, got driveway clear. Then it snowed again. Cleared again this morning. It's continued to snow a little throughout the day, so it could stand one more shot, but I think I'll wait until tomorrow since it's forecast to warm up a little. Well, it's 4 above now so that's already warm compared to yesterday's high of -8.

I think I've got one more variety of onions still coming. Seed orders are trickling in. Fun to be underway!

Lisaann, yes, the dumplings stay on top. So with the lid on they get steamed.

Awe, come on, it's 3º here and we just did the 30 block walk. I always come back sweating.

My dog shivers when we go for a ride in the car. Roll Eyes I can put on extra layers, but he freezes his little butt off. Once we get up near 20, if the wind's down he's ok. 10-day forecast looks promising for the most part. Smiler

P.S. He thinks jackets are for sissies.

.......8 out of 10 roses given for Valentine's Day in the U.S. were grown in S. America and air freighted here for the occasion........

And it was below cold here again today. Had planned on attending a local CSA meeting tonite just to listen in and keep my ear to the ground as to the state of the veggie business in my little sphere of influence.....but I think I'll stay by the fire with my toddy(s) instead.

If you can grow food, you have a cosmic obligation to feed those that can't.

Im on my way to a meeting at the American Legion, and I'd rather stay home & I wish I had a fire to get going! Roll Eyes

Just can't get warm, but I've been sick, too.

It's about 15 here right now...not to my liking, nor my little yappy dog!

Poor thing was out less than 5 minutes last night, on the porch, & when she came in her feet were so cold, she was holding them up!

Had to wipe 'em with a towel & hold 'em over the register for a minute! Poor wimpy girl! Roll Eyes Takes after her mother! Big Grin

HAH! You think that is bad.....I have a 4 year old boy who isn't supposed to walk much.

Can we say F-U-S-S-Y?? Eeker

He jumped onto a cuizinart blade that had fallen off the shelf. So his foot is pretty sliced up.

DH and I keep thinking of tossing him into the snow. Big Grin Hey, we have replacements!! LOL (Do I have to add that I am kidding?) Roll Eyes

Oh no, alaskan!

Did he have to get stitched-up?

Geez, how do you keep a 4 year old down?
Oh, yeah, the duct tape! Big Grin

Just kidding, of course! I hope he'll be better soon!
