Didn't amount to much more than a delay of planting, but anything wet helps. Fortunately, I burned the midnight oil (well, it's light until nearly 10) all weekend and checked a lot off the list. Hopefully the strategy I used for planting seeds in partially-composted leaves & straw works. Hopefully our forecast week of cool and wet comes in just a little teeny bit at a time and helps the dudes adjust to outdoor living without washing everything out.

So how'd the weekend go for y'all?

Anyone heard from MHG??? Maybe he's building an ark.

I'm still clinging to my hilltop here.....keeping an eye on tornadoes just a few miles south of me right now.....weather cut short my evening working outside.

Update - 900 Butternut squash have been planted, Acorns and Spaghetti's are coming up....2600 lin.ft. of garlic has been hand weeded as well as approx. 450 ft. of potatoes. Peas are blooming. Lower field is gonna be a bust again this year, staying too wet to even mow. Weed growth has been explosive this year with all the wet weather intermitten enough with sunshine to get them started. I'll probably be wearing a hoe out this year. I'm mulching as fast as I can mow and sweep. The high velocity winds I've had the last couple weeks just reminds me why I can't have a nice hoophouse out there.

Missed me by 4 miles tonite.....hahahha !!!! ( laughing not too loud and knocking on wood ) Last nite was more dangerous, but they stayed 20 miles south. Those folkswere still under water today and took it heavy again tonite ( so far ).
Yeah, squash is easy money.....twice that in Acorns, about half in Spaghetti. Well, easy money unless you factor in that I'll pick up each one at least 5-6 times before it's out of my hands ( 5 x 3000lbs. = 15,000lbs.)

Who needs that gym? I think you're selling them en masse. I planted a lot for me. We'll see how they do. If I get ripe butternuts before the end of the season this year, that will be a good start.

Glad the wind missed you. We're having a nice gentle rain this morning. Go figure! Maybe some of the seed I put in last weekend will find the incentive it needs to sprout.

......another 2.75 inches of rain today.....flooding all around, couldn't leave the hilltop for awhile this afternoon due to high waters....Dave has my pics to post when he gets time....too much rain, ground is saturated, even the field corn is starting to yellow. Forecast for next week is calling for more of the same.
Bright spot is that the weather held check long enough for my nieces wedding yesterday/last night, although the wind howled and the sky looked like it would pour at any moment. Down side was that they only served lite beer, no Coronas. Plenty of gin though...Wink

Is anyone else having trouble with pictures not showing up? I can see LisaAnn's avatar and nothing else. LisaAnn, your avatar is hosted somewhere else, isn't it? Hmm.

Anyway, back to business. I figured out what's been eating my cuke starts.

SLUGS. Mad

Teeny weeny itsy bitsy little ones. But still definitely slugs. They've taken down a few peppers, too. I didn't have to start baiting them until the 4th of July last year. But tonight, the baiting began.

Sheesh! Can't they at least wait until the plant has come up before they start mowing it down??? Mad
