Alasken - good to see you rejoining the Coven....missed ya kiddo Smiler Grapevine tells me you dropped your pup and all is well.....congratulations !!

Got just over an inch of rain last nite....guess the garlic diggin' will be on hold for today. Blew the sole off one boot digging, so had to get a new pair yesterday. As hot and humid as today is going to get, might be a good day to just ride the mower around in the shade ( it's ONLY been three weeks since we've had time to mow )

Can anybody help me find a source for sock/tube netting...?? I wanna package some of my retail garlic that way this year.

OK, so didn't stay up late enough to catch the sunset.

Took two quick picks before I went to bed (about 9:30) and this is as dark as it got. Notice no sunset for a while. And MHG, GREAT carrots!!!

haha

nope..no moose in the coop.

I am worried about the bear breaking in to dine...keep wondering if I should be proactive and electrify it.

Also worried about eagles and the little varmints.

But not worried about moose this summer..there have been bears about, and that seems to have kept them spooked enough that they haven't munched on ANYTHING. (even excessable yummies)

Hey MHG, is this what you're looking for? "F"

http://www.rockfordpack.com/vegetable_bags.htm They will send a sample if you ask for it.

Ok, report from the fair. Dragged mom to the fair today to look at garlic. Remembered camera. Got to veggie section and ... no garlic entries. Nope, not kidding. Sad. Frowner

From Max: Lucky, you sure are a lucky dude. I don't shed much. That's very impressive indeed! Big Grin

Thanx for the sites, Liz and Blu.
"F" is on the line of what I want, only in a smaller dia. sock.

Liz, I been meanin' to ask you how your enterprise of selling from home is working out for you...?

Finally got the masked bandit that got three of my chickens and and unknown number of eggs before I caught him in my sights last night.

Wife was up all night picklin' and cannin' beets last night.....house smells pleasantly of vinager and cinniman today.

Taters are starting to die down, won't be long before I can mow them off and see how they did. The ones I uncovered looked quite nice.

Found a couple very nice sized Acorns tonite, other than the two, all the rest of the squash is a pretty sea of dark folage with bursts of orange blooms every morning. Now if I can just keep them a secret from the bugs.

Lisa, unfortunately our dogs leave a visible trail in the air of dog hair as they pass thru the house. Cleaning up behind them is an everyday chore.

Finished digging another row of garlic tonite. The inch of rain I got Sat. nite was welcomed by everything else, but the quality of my garlic still in the ground are sufferng because of it. Now its a race before they rot the wrappers off. Just another year where I waited too long before I started harvesting them and got caught short.

Haven't had too much ripe yet except kale and peas. Didn't plant a whole lot of either. Will probably go to small farmer's market on Weds for first time with kale, peas, beets and maybe some lettuce. First planting of beets did well this yr -- go figure! Still planning to put in another batch if time permits.

Got lettuce started inside in little pots -- looks like I'm gonna have to try transplanting it outside b/c my experiment shows it's out of room in the little pots. May try and wait to replace garlic with it; may start harvesting garlic this weekend. Also have more kale started inside & ready to go into the other garlic bed. Most of the locals here have never had kale, so I've given a little away along with a recipe or 2 to try and build a loyal following of kale lovers. Ha ha!

Warm weather stuff is way behind. First flower on a bean was spotted today -- last time this year I was eating beans already. Corn is finally knee high -- some of it. Spotted first flower on a cuke yesterday; most of it died after 3rd attempt at seeding; slicers in the concrete-block beds are finally growing. And on it goes. Did get one really great tomato this evening! Flowered before I put them out and survived the Memorial Day freeze. Rest are flowering and fruiting now.

On the "sale area" front, I painted the 1/2 garage the car doesn't go in last weekend. Gotta add some shelves and such and hopefully will have a usable space. But have pretty much decided that the actual "from home" part will have to wait until next season & go with farmer's market this year.

The new beds I added in this year really are not producing well, except potatoes look good. Gotta work on soil this fall in the hopes of a better crop in that section next year. Needs manure, I think. That's where all the beans and most of the corn are. Mad Also most of the squash & pumpkins. Some of them look ok, but slow.

Mom is here 2 more weeks. Nice to spend the time with her, but I'm not getting a darned thing done. And we need some rain! I'm spending all my discretionary garden time watering. Mad Yep, LisaAnn. I do love this stuff. Big Grin

Got my storage / drying shed worked out in my mind this morning. I think I can build it myself. Ha ha. Big Grin Maybe next year, eh?

Hey there, where is everyone? Ok, I was awol myself, but mom's back home and the garlic is finally all out and hanging by its tail in the garage. Had to take the last of it out pretty wet because ... we've actually gotten a decent amount of rain lately. So everything else is happy.

So Dave (or whoever might know). Did you ever find out what to do with those corms that come up on a softneck? IOW: can I plant the little dudes? Big Grin

Hi Liz, I finished cleaning mine today. I have a bunch of them myself. From what I hear, you can plant them or dry them and make a garlic powder from them. Or eat them.

Muddy knees David! Compost is my friend. Every day I enroll in gardening school. Some days it feels like kindergarten!
