Alaskan, It gets slow this time of year as people tend to their outside chores, go on vacation and/or get ready for the up coming school year. Well, it might be a bit early for the school thing but I am sure you get the idea. August is usually a busy time for a lot of folks on here. It will pick up again in the fall. Also, at this time of night we west coasters get a lot of the forum to ourselves as the east and mid-west are snug in their beds about now. PS: I got an e-mail from farmhound today so I know he is still around.

unfortunately she has been MIA as of late. I think the excitement of summer has drug everyone away from their computers.

Hey Alaskan, I have had a garden for years, never organic. I deceided this year was going to be the start of going all organic. I have used this site for a lot of great info, and have even put in my 2cents. But like Major said, I am out in the garden when you are still in bed, and I am in bed when you are on line. I had a major melt down of my home computor also so I have to wait till I get to work to log on.

Good grief, Feels like I have been gone forever. And I have missed you guys! There is no way I am going to catch up after a month's absence, so I will just post here and ask for updates on you guys: Liz: How is the farmer's market working out? Been thinking of you. Went to our farmer's market this morning. Watermelons zukes tomatoes corn, the whole nine yards, all looking great and priced very low which surprized me! How is your rain situation? Hope you are getting some. We are dry here. No rain in 12 days. Such a pity. Dave: Okay dude, what are the experiments you would like me to try? Now you know I never pass up a good experiment! It's what I live for. Alaskan: How's the baby and the rest of the clan? How many flies are in the house today? Did ya ever post a pic of the sunflower? How are the chickens? Are you getting eggs? Now ya know I am interested in all that, so please tell me! Major: How's the fishing treating you and your wife? I was thinking about you, and figured you guys and the poodles have been catching walleyes and eating well. How are your peppers doing this year? MHG: I assume all the garlic has been harvested. How have your sales at work been? I guess by now, everyone is looking for you to arrive each morning to see what you have for sale each day. How are your potatoes doing? Anything ready to harvest yet? How is the new tractor treating you? Have you drew up the blueprints for the onion/garlic/potatoe harvester? Maybe you already have it in operation by now? Hardrock: So, I see we have a newbie. Welcome to the forums. Glad you chose this thread to make yourself known. As Dave mentioned: Be careful what you wish for! Yep I am a witch, and those posts are very old. Dang, you have been lurking for a while. So, your garlic is looking good? Well, we like pics here, so share if your can. I can't imagine you have bigger garlic than Dave. Now that dude can grow some garlic. I was trying to beat him, but alas, I will have to wait till next year. My picture site crashed, but I have been working on it. So, You like rugers? I have a Ruger 458 too! Now, does that puppy kick like a mule, or not? Hahahahahaahha Take a look: Well guys, It's been a long time since we talked, hope to hear from all of you and anyone else who cares to stop by. It is Saturday night, well, it will soon be Saturday night, so: POP A TAB FOR ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Howdy lisaann! Glad to see you put down your broom for a bit to check in with us lowly garlicheads One of my experiments is to plant a couple big bulbs now whole and leave them alone till next summer. Two of the softnecks I planted cloves of last summer were 3" this year. The bulbs had weird bumps on them. One of the 3 rotted. I peeled back the skins and there were leaf stalks wrapped around the bulb. Weird. I looked at the other 2 and they do too, but aren't rotted. So, I planted both of them along with a volunteer elephant bulb I dug from my flower bed. I am wondering if they will keep regenerating every year and get monstrously big? My other experiment is to plant some rocco a month early and the rest on time to compare. I will do the same with the Spicy Red Korean as well and a few others I have. Just in case the extra fall growing time gives extra big root systems for even bigger bulbs next year. Edit: here's a pic of one of those strange softnecks, 3.417"
Muddy knees David! Compost is my friend. Every day I enroll in gardening school. Some days it feels like kindergarten!

My 458 is a Ruger #1 leaver action, Wincester Mag. Yours looks like mine, Huh. The dang thing does kick like a mule. I haven't seen any large animals with long trunks in my area since i got the gun hahaha how about you? Hope to hear from you soon Hey everyone, thanks for the warm welcome. I will send some pic's soon. At the moment i have issues with work and all but, i will get everything squared away shortley. If you have something to share, by all means, hit me up.

Hi guys! I've been a reader of the forum for a few years and have been gardening for 35+ years. All organic but being self employed, some years better than others. I have spent the last few years really amending the soil with compost. Other than the non ripening tomatoes we probably have the best garden in 35 years! We had our 1st successful beet crop this year! Tonight for dinner we had a plate full of marvelous pickled beets! FWIW I been a customer of Johnny's Selected since he first started. Zone 5b and an hour away from the Rodale Institute.

Hey there everyone! LisaAnn, it feels like you've been gone forever because you HAVE! So come on back, now, you hear? Sales are slow because... I have very little to sell. Long story. Sold a few beets, some kale, and a couple of onions. Beans are terrible, vining crops haven't started bearing yet, ALL spaghetti squash keeled over, tomatoes are still green, I'll be lucky to get a few ears of stunted corn for myself. Cold dry spring, new & obviously not well enough prepared beds, HOARDES of slugs that defy my attempts to deter them. Get the picture? If green tomatoes were gold, I would be a rich woman right now. Garlic is out and hanging in the garage. 12 days with no rain is all??? Stop complaining! Having said that, we actually have had rain the last few weeks, at least in my yard. It looks like spring around here. This week is forecast to be warm, so maybe some stuff will ripen. Ok, gotta go try and fix the lawnmower...
