Hi MHG,

Glad to see ya back, if only for one post.

Hope you stick a couple garlics in the ground for Christine, if not for yourself. She would be HIGHLY pissed if you don't do at least one thing you love. You don't have to do fields of them, but a couple cloves would be nice.

Hey Connie! Woo Hoo! You took the plunge! FINALLY!

My garlic goes in 10/24, I decided. It better not rain. In bed 1. Haven't had garlic in that bed in 3 years. Yep, I'm ready for garlic.

Mrs. K,

How we gonna get you to plant some? You have to, even if it is just the cloves of one bulb!

I'm stomping my foot! yes

I see that you came here already, Lisaann. We'll keep after Mrs. K. Remember it took you more than 2 years to get me to plant them.

Yes, I know !!!

And I can't wait till next summer when you dig them up. Your hubby likes garlic too, right? And Ava? You are gonna love growing garlic. NO WORK! Well harvest and curing and that ain't nothing! Well, unless you plant 30,000 cloves like MHG did. That would be a J O B !!!!

Won't take but a minute, and well, after that, sorry about your luck, YOU SHALL BE HOOKED! It will give ya something to do, and as far as I know, grasshoppers are NOT interested in Garlic!

So see?

You got it planted yet?

Someone needs to start a new Garlic thread, showing planting stock.

Liz, dear girl!

Will you do it? I don't have any pics yet, and I want to see what others have.

Oh My Goodness, did ya take pics, before they went in the ground? Just thought about that!

I just have the pix of last summer's harvest, not planting stock. Are you kidding? It was all I could do to plant it. 1127 cloves in the ground this year. Damp soil. I sincerely hope that doesn't turn out to be a big problem...

Mrs. K, you will just love planting garlic! clap

ok, this is a LOT of PRESSURE! cantlook

I don't think I can even FIND garlic, see I did read Moorehouse's post and he said no store garlic. I am assuming that he meant the stuff that comes in the box for cooking??

Also, we buy lots of stuff at the feed store, but they do not have garlic here.

But I will look around, if I get to the city in the next week, I will stop at the big gardening store.

Over 1000 cloves???? Do you live in vampire land? What do you do with it? mk

There are no vampires anywhere near my place, Mrs. K. Big Grin

I have lost track of how much garlic and garlic-pepper jelly I've made and sold so far this season, but I would guess it's close to 12 dozen jars. When the dust settles, I will be able to figure it out though. I made 10 garlic braids for our area Garlic & Grape Festival and they were all sold within the first hour of the show. All of the "Garlic Packs" I made up (2-3 bulbs each) sold as well, either there or at the farmer's market. And I am doing a lot of canning of tomato products, nearly all of which contain garlic.

See if you can find something to try out, Mrs. K. Smiler No pressure, of course. Just fun. Big Grin

Are there any gardeners in your area who might have a last bulb or two stashed somewhere? If you strike out, email me: info at wellnessimages dot com. My "good stuff" is in the ground already, but I'm sure I could scrounge up some small bulbs and our climate is probably close enough to the same that it would be ok. (Yeah, I have one of those yahoo addresses but never check it.)

Liz, how are you able to maintain your regular employment which includes a lot of mind-boggling brain work and plant so much garlic, among other things?

Fess up, how much does Max actually do around there?!

Maybe you don't sleep. That could be it. Hnnnnnnnn?

Yay, Mrs. K, you go girl. Local growers around here...you know at the market...hardly had any garlic left. I grabbed up whatever I could find. I'm sure you'll be able to find a few heads. (I think the whole thing is called a head and the individual garlic is called a clove. In my language we call them "teeth", lol!)

They call the individual cloves "toes" up here. Kinda weird if you ask me.

Max is a big helper all right. I guess you've got my number Connie! He is very talented. Anyway, I am really looking forward to recharging my batteries a bit this winter. Might even read a book or two. Cool

I do sleep. Normally. Right now just waiting for the timer to ding on a batch of salsa verde and then off to dreamland! sleepy

Well, Liz, that's exactly what I did today...read a delightful little book called The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows.

The weather is getting chilly and although there's still a bit of cleaning to do in the garden, it does the soul a lot of good for one just to sit and read for a day.

I liked that book too Connie, but it took me a while to get into the flow of it being written in letters. I like a lot of books written in that era, pre to post war. It definately does the soul good to have a day for reading! But the only time I get those is when I travel. I'm not giving up my books because of no time though so I listen to them in audio while doing the endless chores. It's the next best thing to reading Smiler

I used and gave away too much of my garlic and had to buy some a couple weeks ago. I bought from Jungs and they shipped right away. Still haven't got it in the ground but I'm glad I covered the bed with plastic before we got that 4 inches of wet heavy snow last night!
