Got back from vacation today to see that a storm had flattened about half my corn. I am so sad. Is there any way to save the banged up corn? I'm thnking some wood stakes to try to prop them up. Anyone ever fixed their corn after something like this?

If you already have ears (silks) that had a week or so to be pollinated, you should be OK. The ears will grow.

If not, you can try to prop them up. You may also just leave 'em down...you may still get some good-enough-for-gardening ears if you leave them down. Pollination probably won't be the greatest, so you'll be missing a lot of kernels on those ears.

if they arent broke off at the ground, they should stand back up in a few days.

Am I in my cabin dreaming? Or are you really scheming, to take my ship away from me? You better think about it. I just cant live without it. So please dont take my ship from me!!!

This happened to me last year. I gave up trying to stand them back up, they got about 1/2 way back up on their own and I still had a decent harvest. It's a bit of a challenge rummaging through to pick.

Ok, thanks. I guess I will just let them try to stand back up on their own. Had another storm last night too! Oh well.

My small patch got flattened also in the storm that tore through Eastern NH and Western MAine last week. Only a few stalks were snapped and I've been giving them an assist in standing up since they are growing in beds in the garden and are blocking the paths.

Very carefully and slowly lift them grasping the the stalk gently with both hands at about 1/3 and 2/3 along the length. (I learned that pushing it up from near the roots will only snap them.) Then pull or push or pile some soil against the base of the stalk and press it hard with the heel of your hand against the side of the stalk that was on the ground.

Most of my three beds of corn are somewhat vertical now, looking like a gang of hung-over sailers suddenly called to attention.

Update:

Things turned out pretty well. I lost about a fourth of my corn, but with the help of some five foot bamboo sticks that I tied the stalks to, the rest of my knocked down corn survived. Been eating fresh corn the past two weeks. Yum!
