I have been told it was acceptable and have used it. However, I also question the ink used. Newspaper is also acceptable and evidently the ink, for some reason, isn't an issue. (I guess I'm not giving you any new info.)
I have been told that you can use shredded paper of the sort you are talking about. Newspaper is acceptable because the ink that is used is soy ink. I hope this helps to clear things up.
I have used shredded newspaper for 2 years and it works. I put about 2 garbage canfulls(packed down) on a garden 4'x50'. I do this in Nov. or Dec. By March or April all the paper turned into soil. I always take out the slick, colored paper, but a sm. amt. of colored pics within your papers seems to be ok. I cover the paper with layers of shredded leaves, straw, lime(here in NE TN.) and lastly about 10 bags of Organic Hummus/Composted Cow Maneur to hold it all down. Otherwise your paper blows away! I buy these bags at Lowes or Home Depot. This year, I am buying a trailerfull of compost locally and using that instead. Good Luck, masterg
You can use all shredded paper, especially the glossy, colored paper if you're vermicomposting. Worms LOVE the glossy advertisements (yeah! A way to get rid of that pesky junk mail); the worms also love the glue on envelopes your mail comes in (I leave out the ones with the plastic windows). After the ink goes through the worms bodies, which they're immune to, you'll have awesome compost (castings). Finally, I wouldn't add the paper directly as mulch without this break down process.
