No higher than you can reach!!! They will be OK on a 5' pole, they will just fall over and down. In that case, you just pick up the falling over layer to pick the beans underneath. It happens every year for me. I use a fence, about 5 feet tall, they end up growing all over themselves and produce like crazy. I'll post pics one of these days, maybe Thursday, to show you what I mean. Just don't pick them when they are wet, tends to make the vines and beans rusty. It's OK, they will still produce a ton of beans up until frost. I've already canned 6 quarts and will do that many more tomorrow night.

In my own "Garden of Eden", my Garden of Eden pole beans grow at least 10 feet. They grow up the 8' trellis poles, across the horizontal ridge, droops down and then up a couple of times until frost mercifully puts them and their endless quest to grow longer out of their misery. These beans ended any idea I had for growing the "Three Sisters." Wayne
