My husband has been getting for free from a friend some pine bark nuggets

Can I use this on garden for mulch

I have been afraid it would be too acidy or something for use just anywhere in my garden

I am in zone 6, Tahlequah, OK

Any advice?

As long as they haven't been dyed or treated, I'd definitely take all I could get! I think they look wonderful as a mulch, too. I would still encircle my perennials with composted manure & then mulch over THAT so that your plants get fed & any acidity will be neutralized by the worms that the composted manure attracts. ANY mulch is better than NO mulch, & pine bark nuggets are one of the prettiest.

Hi,"T", only thing I might do if I were using those nuggets, is to add a little extra nitrogen to soil. Cause they'll be "stealing" nitrogen from the soil (and your plants) to aid in their decomposition process.

And, if your garden's away from house foundation...okay. Otherwise, don't pile them up too close to foundation, cause (especially if they're "fresh" nuggets) they can sometimes attract carpenter ants and/or termites. I made this mistake and got these little "visitors" in my house as a result!!:_|

Down here in Georgia, pine bark nuggets, pine straw, pine bark shredded...you name it, that's what we use down here as mulch around and in garden beds and landscape borders! I have it laid around all of my raised beds as my pathways, and as it break downs I just add more on top. Great moisture retention. Great that your hubby gets it free for your garden!
