We had a storm last night that blew about half of my bush bean plants over. I went out today and kind of "propped" them up with extra soil at the base. It made me wonder... do you guys stake your beans?

Bush beans? Not me...
Since I grow peas and beans following the "intensive planting" method (meaning that I toss a handful of seeds and then stand back waiting for the butterbeans...) they grow into a fairly dense crop. That probably keeps them from suffering wind damage.

Hmm...well, if there is one lesson learned this year, it is to NEVER follow the planting instructions on seed packets!! I have so many spots in my garden that could have been used more efficiently, had the plants not been spaced so far apart. The beans are a perfect example of that. I have sown more seeds in the rows in between, but they were not mature enough to provide any support.

Thanks, next year I'll plant more closely together, for sure.
