My neighbors removed thier huge old Black Walnut tree this winter (tree diameter was at least 4'). The tree used to be on our fence line and I'm sure there are roots in my backyard. Cause the tree is no more I'm prepping a raised bed that used to be next to fence/tree for veggies.

I'm in the process of be tilling/double digging and adding compost to the area and was wondering if I should add anything else as I know the Black walnut didn't like anything near it.

Welcome! Hope you will like it here. We all have tons of info to share. Unfortunately, I don't know how long the residual effect of a walnut tree may last. They have a toxin that leaches into the soil and tomatoes especially don't like it. Some things will be OK.

Others here may know more!

The roots of the black Walnut are where the vast majority of the Juglone, the growth suppressing agent of the species, is concentrated so for several years yet you could have a problem growng things where those roots are. A raised bed may help alleviate som e ot the problem depending on how high the beds is and how deeply the plants there roots.
