I just read on the frost date thread that you plant in mid to late August and was wondering what it is I could plant in August. I really should find a chart for my zone.

Now I have a couple of bare spots and I wouldn't mind planting something in there.

Connie, it's easy to make your own chart. Find out when your average last frost date is and count back how long the growing period is for the plants you're considering. The current OG article says to discount by 2 weeks to allow for shorter days. Of course some like cool weather better than others.

I'll look forward to Mumsey's answer, too, since I'm kind of winging it.

I am going to try more beets and I plan to toss in the left over walla walla seeds I have and see what they do, and leave them over the winter. New experiment for me. I just don't have the room indoors to start alot of onions. It worked well enough this year, the few I did start indoors, but more of a PI the A than anything.

Toward end of August, I will put lettuce and tat soi (if the current plant yields mature seed by then), maybe some peas. Of course I will need to shade these rows til germination/cooler weather.

Good Morning guys,

Don't forget spinach, turnips and there is still time for a row of carrots too.

Any of those can go in By August 1 and be ready and survive the early frosts.

Found this:
chart might be useful.
