I've had a lot of trouble in the past with Fusarium Wilt (I think). This year I'm taking extra care to plant in a different area and keep the ground mulched with hay. Its working so far my plants look great.
I'm in zone 4-5 so I'm a little behind most of you. Its just time (maybe a bit late) to put out my cages. I've been told the metal basket supports will carry FW over the winter and start it on your new plants. I was also told washing the baskets in a mixture of bleach and water before putting them out each season will prevent this.
Does anyone know the correct mixture of bleach/water? And since I have pool chlorine, what about a chlorine/water mixture ratio?
Correct measurments are one oz. chlorine bleach to one gallon water. But, the caveat here (and, by golly, I can't rememer where I read this.... so I'm sorry, I usually like to back up info with some subsantiation)....is that it should be Clorox bleach. If anyone can remember why it has to be Clorox....I'm listening!
I'd avoid pool chlorine. Only cause I have instinctive feeling it's not quite the right thing to use (Again, any other feedback on this one.......?)
Interesting look see here on grapefruit seed extract for disinfecting. Read about it last year in a health food mag and stumbled on this info on the Web:
