While farmers can protect their crops from wild animals t least the Michigan game wardens frown on the average backyard gardener from shooting these same animals outside of season and without a license. Doing so does subject you to very large dollar fines and often jail time. Do not simply assume you can, ask.
Live trapping wild animals and transporting them in most states is illegal, also, without the proper license. you alos do not do the animal you trapped any good since you place them in a new environment where resources may be limited and the native animals there may well kill this interlopper you introduced rather than share the resources.

The sign of a good gardener is not a green thumb, it is brown knees.

Anyone with a bit of archery experience can use the same form and release point to become pretty good with a slingshot. Glad you got a kick out of it veggie gal!
The "typical backyard gardener" should have the same protection under the law as the farmer, as long as the crop is being grown for a food source or as a commodity to be sold or otherwise distributed. Having dealt with law enforcement for many years, I have learned that often game wardens (and other enforcement personnel) do not have the same interpretation of the laws as the judges do. While there may be laws about use of firearms, trapping, etc. the best option is to look into the legalities of YOUR area before taking drastic action.

I've found that rolling bulbs (or any other seed for that matter) in cayenne pepper keeps the squirrels from digging them up. Even sprinkling it over the ground after planting seems to work well to keep them out.

Actualy, not a bad idea. It might work if you wrap it tight enough.

After using the .22 and dressing them, wrapping them in foil, stuff with an onion or turnip, salt and pepper and a thin layer of oil, toss it into the coals of the campfire and you've got a feast!

Only if it's a young and tender one! LOL! If you get one of those grandmother squirrels you'd best brown her and simmer her in gravy in your Dutch oven for a while over that campfire.

I sprinkle chili powder in & around the hole. Also i have used hot pepper wax over the freshly planted area. I also plant some sacrificial bulbs and sunflowers. Some fresh growing and others depending how late in the season it is, cut off and saved in the garage. Last resort my 1 & 1/2 year old malti-poo puppy who thinks squirrels are moving chew toys and can never catch them but, tries her best every time.
