why would you add coal to your soil?i live in grain farming country and there is a farmer putting coal on his fields. i know that wood ash is good for your soil,but not so sure about coal. :O

The coal will help the fire burn hotter when he has to burn his field due to crop failure from putting coal on his crop. LOL!!!

I've never heard of this either, it'll be interesting to find out, though. Wink

There are people that have really wierd ideas about how to improve soil, and apparently that farmer is one. Coal, even though it is organic matter and once was plant material, does nothing to improve the soil although there are some that believe it does aid in opening up clay.
