I read in a veggie planting book (from the library) that in my area zone 3/4 Upper northwest minnesota that you can plant potatoes four weeks before last frost , is this true? Has anyone done this ?
I'm in zone 5 (May 15 last frost date) and I am presprouting my seed potatoes now to go into the ground this weekend. If you start the same process at 4-5 weeks before your last frost date, you should be good to go.
Yes, you can definitely plant them now. The old timers' motto is "plant them on Good Friday". Farmer's Almanac says plant in a full moon, never a dark moon. Since Good Friday was early this year, I missed it by a week. They take about 3 weeks to come up. I'm in Iowa, zone 4 I think. Happy gardening!
