I have 10 tomato plants that were planted about 2 weeks ago, already have grown aobut 6 inches, (Zone 9)..Yesterday I noticed 2 plants starting to droop. Today they are down and dead...What caused this? and what should I do?...I rotate between my plantings every 4 years. This is the first time this has happened.

Thank you from Phoenix

Usually I immediately spray my tomatoes with aerated compost tea or seaeed tea, if it is plant stress related.

If it's fungal disease related, I usually spread corn meal and powdered sulfur all over the tomato foliage.

Keep the tomatoes mulched and near lots of mature compost in the soil, or around the plant roots.

Sounds like damping off disease. Next time try spreading milled sphagnum moss or chameline tea around plants to get tomato plants pass this "baby disease" stage.

Let me add, damping off disease attacks the soil line stems of the plants, plants first show wilting then they topple over or lean badly. Check soil line stems, if they are mushy, that's what you got - damping off disease.

Cutworms will also attack new plants and cut them off at the soil line. Place a couple of toothpicks or penny nails in the soil (perpendicular) against the tomato plant stems, about 1/3 deep.
