I love baskets of Fuschias! Vinca might do well and Alyssum(although you may not get very many flowers). Maybe some shade tolerant herbs?

i've been looking for this very site!!! thank you!!! :-D i need shade tolerant stuff for my front yard. Evil succeeds when good people do nothing. No trees were killed or animals harmed in the sending of this message; however a great many electrons were horribly inconvenienced. Farm's blog: http://allnaturalsimplelife.blogspot.com/

Have the same problem on my front porch. Get's only dappled morning sun, rest of the day porch overhang casts shade. Here's some of the plants I've used over the years: Caladiums Wax Begonia Fuschia Coleus (especially the new large-leaved ones in lime green..beautiful!) Impatiens Torena ("wishbone flower") Jasmine Gloxinia And just about any kind of fern Lots of choices.....Good Luck!

Sorry to contradict....O1, but alyssum really require sun. You might be thinking of lobelia. They do ok in partial shade. They have nice trailing habit. Look great cascading out of window boxes. Come in two shades of blue, white, a blue & white, purple and (red) which I've only seen in catalogs. P.S. O1: You're so right about WalMart, KMart, etc. Unless you really know what you're looking for and know what to avoid, I wouldn't even think of asking advice there! :O You're much better dealing with well-established nurseries/farms. And I don't mean those "chain" nurseries. Independents. This is all these people do. It's their livelihood and have, generally, been doing it for generations!
