I have a problem with really thick weeds just off to the side of my lawn. I have cut them down and sprayed them with weed B gone, supposedly one of the better weed killers that is lawn safe, my problem is that I do not have time to pull them all by hand and the Weed B Gone has not killed them all because I am not able to get to the root of all of them because they are so thick. So my question is, how the heck do I get rid of all of those weeds, completely, without having to pull them.
If you can, cover the weeds with many layers of newspaper or cardboard. Then put mulch over the top to hold the paper in place & to give the area a nicer appearance. When you seed your grass this fall, just seed right over the mulch, or plant whatever you want there next spring.
I appriciate the advice. The problem is that I need for the weeds to be gone. I agree that it would look nice with just a shreded bark mulch over it but I need it to be dirt. Again thanks for the help.
There is some info about using vinegar from good ole Uncle Sam.
If you absolutely cannot remove the unwanted plants by mechanical means (pullin', tuggin', diggin', coverin', etc.) then maybe try the vinegar alone first. Salt is very damaging to soils. Maybe you'd like to do some research about the effects of adding salt to a soil before you make the following:
1 gallon vinegar 1 cup salt 1 tablespoon dishwashing liquid
The weeds will be gone, eventualy, and then you will have healthy mulch to plant grass seed or flowers or whatever in. The cardboard and mulch smother and kill them, and all without chemicals. Then you are given the added gift of a great place to plant. A blank canvas, if you will.
And if I'm completely misunderstanding, what on earth would you want plain dirt for?
