I am having the hardest time identifying a particular insect that I found on my roses. They seem to look like orange ants with jet black legs - very halloween like. They have two black antenae and short, sparse hairs, or spikes on it's back. It's abdomen is larger than it's head. It also has a single black line on it's belly going from end to end. I found them on a rose bud and don't know if they ate some aphids or if they are trying to suck on it. There are some leaves nearby that have been chewed but don't know if that is from them. I live in Central Florida if that helps. Any help would be great.

I'm in W Central Fl.. I think you are talking about silk ants. Likely only their nickname. I've been told to avoid them as they can sting.

Check this link out, all of Fl. ants. The one I'm describing is not on there.
