Hi all,
Love the reading but have a quick question.I am moving to my farm next month and am making plans to Lasagna garden, question is since moving and will have tons of boxes can I use that also to layer?Maybe just one box per layer?
I jsut purchased the book last night (online)after reading about it here, but want to know right away when making plans for my leftover box supply.I already got them from Freecycle and would like to keep them from the landfill but not have a bajillion boxes laying aroundWink
I don't read the paper but online so no newspapers to speak of really..
Thanks for any & all advice...
PeaceWink

Yes, you're supposed to be able to use cardboard boxes. Be sure to overlap, though, so nothing grows through.

And welcome! Tell us about the farm. And where are you? What zone?

That's great thanks so muchWink
Welp lil about me I guess..I am a 32 year old SAHM(engaged to the love of my life) 4 furkids and 1 seven year old girl.We live in Safety Harbor FL but moving to Brooksville FL I think that's Zone 9Wink
We jsut purchased 4 acres near a lake and very much in the woods. It has lots of space that's already divided into sections for planting, new pole barn, greenhouse and koi ponds with grassy knoll areas, creeks and lots of trees.BEAUTIFUL if I don't say so myself LOL I am so excited to have our own land to do with what I please..Garden is being prepped ASAP and it won't be a minute to soonWink
I have ordered lots of books reccomended here and am looking forward to growing my family's food organically..I would cut of this black thumb off but I need it most days,so ya'll will propably here question after question from me.But really becoming efficient in utilizing the things I can do on this land is most important to me. I am going to try my best to grow something..
The soil there is super sandy so I thought Lasagna would be best for me,we already have tons of the previous owners manure for composting.I plan for chickens right away, maybe a few sheep to chew on the grassWink
Thanks for the help it's greatly appreciated and I love reading the posts hereWink

grassyknoll,

Welcome! Big Grin Big Grin

Your new place sounds awesomly divine! I'm totally green with envy here. So... ... ... would you consider putting up a vacationing fellow OG'er in exchange for my limited knowledge of gardening... ... ... in Minnesota? Wink Ok, ok, howabout the manual labor I could assist with? Or I could board the plane with... ... ... ah never mind. I guess I can't borad the plane with a hoe or shovel! They'd take it away! :O It would be just me, really, as DH has no interest in heading east in any direction at all. He's driven semi's for almost 30 years and has had his fill, I guess. Wink Razzer I'm really just kidding unless you take me totally seriously. Then I'm not.

Anyway, congratulations on your pruchase and keep us posted on how things go and what you're growing.

That sounds like an awesome place! I'm so jealous!! Yes, as you've already been told, cardboard boxes are great for lasagna. A lot of people prefer them because they're easier to work with. Overlap each by several inches. Also, I find it easiest if I put four or five boxes (broken down and with tape removed) in a small wading pool to soak for a few minutes before using them. Don't put more than that at a time, because if they get too wet they'll fall apart, but it really helps them to already be soaked a bit before laying down. Otherwise, they're a bugger to get wet all the way through.

You can also use 100% cotton sheets, or any other organic material that comes in sheets. Good luck and have fun!!

Blessings,

Heather
