Last year some of my asparagus went to seed. This year I have MANY very small asparagus plants coming up. Will these plant someday become large productive plants? If so, how long will it take? Or should I pull the small plants and add them to my compost pile? Comments and suggestion. please!!!
If there is room for more plants I would leave them. Or if not I would try to transplant them in another part of my property. If they make it through the first year they are on their way to being produtive in 3 years. I cheat a little and harvest some spears before the 3rd year but very few. Good Luck

This is year # 2 for my bed and I would say 25% of the asparagus coming up is a cutable size... the rest I am letting go to seed...I have a few bare spots but did not get new crowns in so that will have to wait until next spring...Maybe if I feed the bed really well the bare spots will grow in...They tell me you can't rush a go thing and that fresh asparagus is one of the best ...
