There is a planting calander called The Stella Natura that explains how, why and when to plant by the moon and zodiac.

You usually do not plant on either the full or new moons but in the periods of waxing moons (going to full) and waning (going to dark)

Fedco, SSE and abundant life seed foundation all carry the Stella Natura.

Jersey,
Sometimes you can find calenders with moon planting tips on them. Not all calenders have them, Check your local book stores like Walden books or ...well cant think of another right now. Here in East Texas, the Wood County Farmers CO-OP gives them away.
About the only thing I plant by the moon is irish(red) potatoes, I plant them the week of the full moon in February, unless it is before the 15, then I plant full moon of March.

Am I in my cabin dreaming? Or are you really scheming, to take my ship away from me? You better think about it. I just cant live without it. So please dont take my ship from me!!!

From the top of the ridge I garden, "There is a time to plant, and a time to harvest"..my experience is the gravitational pull of the moon on the water of the earth changes the water levels and effects the moisture level in the ground each month..everything has its growth cycle, so it is important to have the moisture at the times needed..My experience is moist soil in the first quarter and less moisture as the moon cycles...the fourth quarter is dry,,time to till, and destroy growth..of course this does not apply to irrigation, and controlled envirement and rainfall.."hard to explain, but it works"

I am planning on doing it this year just for giggles. Hey, a million grandparents couldn't be wrong! Also, visit this site from the Old Farmer's Almanac. It's a great resource:

Hi there;

I have been an organic gardener since 1974 and have used astrological information on the correct timing for planting, harvesting and pest and weed control, based upon the phases of the moon and the signs the moon moves thru. I can tell you it makes a big difference on your success rate. It has been used for centuries and for good reason it works! Something that has lasted so long must have some merit to come into being in the first place.

Some plants/seeds should be planted when the moon is increasing in light, from new moon to full moon, is the time to plant annuals that produce their yield/flowers above ground.

During the decreasing of light, from full moon to new moon, is the time to plant perennials, bulbs, root plants and biennials.

Of course this in a very general sense but you can refine your planting and increase your accuracy by paying attention to which quarter the moon is in as well as the sign it is transiting.

There is a book by Louise Riotte called Astrological Gardening that is a great place to start.
