Hi! I'm new here and also new to gardening. I live in Colorado where we're having a terrible drought. I have cherry tomatoes and Celebrity tomatoes in my garden. Grew them from seed indoors and have been very surprised at how well they've been doing. I have lots of little tomatoes on the vines for several weeks, but they're all still green. This is the 1st time I've ever grown tomatoes so I don't know what to expect and haven't found anything in my books about this. Is it just possibly not time for my tomatoes to ripen yet? Do they really stay green on the branches for weeks before ripening? Any info would be so appreciated! Thanks and have a great day!
Remember that maters ripen from the inside out, so there's plenty going on, even if it appears nothing is happening. Tomatoes also ripen better when the temps are warm, but not sizzling
Some varieties of tomatoes seem to stay green on the vine longer than others. Yes, waiting anxiously for tomatoes to ripen can be torture, especially for tomato lovers like me. Be patient, and if the fruit seems to be healthy as well as the plants, they will ripen in due time.
Remember, it's kind of like watching a pot of water, waiting for it to boil. Seems like it takes f-o-r-e-v-e-r!!

Not to worry, they will eventually ripen, then you will have so many you won't know what to do with them. I have had my first tomato as late as Aug. 1 and as early as July 1. This year I'm still waiting. The plants look better than any I've ever had and are loaded with maters. All of a sudden it WILL happen!

Just as I was speaking yesterday, my tomatoes were busy turning red! Went out and was surprised to see 4 of them waiting to be picked. The ones on the bottom will be the first to turn, so you may have to get down in there and really LOOK.
