Yesterday we realized we had a situation that called for a large sheet of plywood. But after finding out about the carcinogenic properties of formaldehye, I was very reluctant to use plywood. Lo and behold, there is an environmentally friendly alternative, called wheat board or wood stalk, made from the leftovers of wheat production and held together with a formaldehyde free resin of some kind. Has anyone used this or heard of it?
We were going to put the plywood on top of a double size futon frame to keep the futon mattresses more level. But there are lots of building situations where plywood is easier to use then sheets of wood, which aren't as wide.
We decided that an ordinary coil mattress solved the problem so I didn't get as far as pricing. But I would have NOT wanted to have formaldehyde off gassing in a bedroom, especially on a bed!
