Wow!!! I had read about some research into this at The University of Texas. I also read just yesterday that oil is believed to have formed from ancient algae growth. I wonder how many years it would take to perfect the process and get it into production. By the way, what is the origin of this video?

The nice thing about algae is that it can be grown on land that is not fit for agriculture, you just need some water which can be of very poor quality like brackish water or partially treated sewage and a source of carbondioxide. It can be used to clean the exhaust from coal power plants for example.

Good news from popular science magazine- royal dutch shell is opening an "oilgae" pilot plant in hawaii. Perhaps this really is the solution to foreign oil needs, since all you need to raise algae is water, nutrients from sewage sludge, and carbon dioxide from a brewery or a coal or natural gas power plant. Looks like we may have sustainable biofuels after all.
