How do I cut down on paper towel use?

Mostly I use it to pat down wet salmon/tuna,
but I sometime hear of folks who don't use them at all???how is that possible?

My Mom talks about using newspaper, but we don't get a newpaper.

Just wondering?

Smiler

Robin

And maybe steal paper napkins from restaurants. It doesn't cut down on paper waste, but it cuts down on the expense of paper towels!

I'm kidding. Sort of.

I buy bounty paper towels they are a little more expensive but they are strong and can reuse them. I use newspaper for all my windows.I also use a dish cloth to wipe up spills and then soak in water and a little bleach. With 3 men and 3 dogs we have alot of spills.

Cut down on paper towel use??? Roll Eyes

I have two geriatric dogs, & I defy ANYONE to come between me & my paper towels or me & my plastic grocery bags. I only WISH my only paper towel use was just for kitchen stuff.

Anyone who feels that I should start mopping up dog urine & sh*t with anything other than paper towels is welcome to come over here & do it themselves several times a day - lol!!!!!!

Robin - don't worry about it. The fact that you're even worrying about it is "green" enough. Paper towels aren't exactly the strong "demon" that uber-green folks make them out to be. Relax.

Robin, I am a paper towel whore...if they are there on the counter, (and they ARE) I tend to grab them for any task. I wish I could say that I only used them to wipe down salmon (extra goody for the compost pile!)

So maybe it's not something worth thinking about for every person, but for me, it is...I would sooo use them for cleaning up after geriatric pets, my DD has an elderly dog who no longer can feel himself going or control his bladder or bowels...this is so sad, but he still thinks of himself as a puppy, and is not ready to go yet. Kudos to you for caring for yours, BreezyGardener.

I have done the following to cut down on usage:
gotten back to my cloth napkins
put several hand towels on the oven door
handle
gotten enough "flour sack" dish towels to
always have a clean one handy
just thinking befor I use them

I am planning to use so few, (wiping down salmon, for instance) that I will move them from the counter to under the sink.

I agree with BreezyGardener about relaxing...it's about making changes in a way that works for YOU and you sound pretty "green" to me!

Peace

Gail
