Consumers Power here in Michigan hires a company(Asplund) to maintain power lines. As a home owner I have Maintained the growth of the trees by select cutting and trimming. Today this company told me I had to give them permission to come in and spray the trees below the lines, or they would come in and clear a 90ft. wide area under neath the lines and theres not a thing I could do about it. This seems radical, especially if the trees are 25ft. below the lines, in my case they are, there is also a water channel that flows through the property into the lakes that are used to attract tourist,it also feeds into the area that is used for spawning beds by the fish in the lakes also, I would never endanger the power lines by allowing the trees to even get close. What really bothers me is the company spraying this chemical never offered a pamplet on the chemical they sprayed, and when I went to look the chemical up, I could not find any info on it, They told me it is called Garlund 4. Any info on the chemical, and on land owner rights to maintain his property in this type of circumstance would be appericated.
Thanks Howard, but I don't want to lose 15yrs of investment, I invited the big man in charge to come see for himself, cause he told me it doesn't run through my yard, of course he declined, but maybe your on to something, maybe the township could be persuaded to lower my taxes.
I suspect that the herbicide is Garlon 4 (triclopyr)and it's manufactured by Dow Agrosciences. It's a broadleaf herbicide commonly used in the right of way industry.
Check with others in your neighborhood. If you can get together some convinceing info you can start your own protest group. If there is anyone in the neighborhood with chemical sneseativity than legally they can't spray due to the health damage to that one person. Just try you can't lose anything by trying since this policy is already in place.
