Am I crazy? I notice that when I eat an apple, my lips swell and get a little itchy. This has happened occasionally for a few years and worsened recently; lately I noticed that when I purchase apples from a local low-spray farm, it doesn't happen. Is this my punishment for scoffing at all those 'chemically sensitive' people all these years? Has this happened to anyone else?
Does this happen with certain apple varieties Penny? Give this a try, purchase some 3%food grade hydrogen peroxide and soak your produce between 3 and 5 minutes. The peroxide will help to remove persistent organic pollution as well as chemical contamination.Another benifit is that any surface bacteria and fungal desease will also be killed giving longer storage life. If the h.p. is not available you could try some of the produce rinses on the market nowadays, typically made from citrus peel extracts.
Sorry for the delayed response Penny, you can try a local health food store, some hydroponics stores carry it, do a search on the web for possible sources, while searching you can find information on usage and many more applications for the peroxide. I purchase hydrogen peroxide in the 35% concentrated form which must be diluted to the 3% mix, you will save money by doing this but caution should be taken to learn how to properly handle and store the concentrated mixture, when diluted though the 3% mix is relatively harmless.
