Organic Gardening will upgrade its login and registration system on
December 11. The new system is needed to support some of the major site
enhancements that we are currently developing. The new system is shared with
other Rodale sites, including Prevention, Men's Health, Runner's World and Women's Health.

In a case of closing the barn door after the horse has already escaped, the USDA's Animal & Plant Health Inspection Services (APHIS) has issued a civil penalty of $500,000 onto the chemically-laden shoulders of Monsanto's Scott's for field testing biologically engineered bentgrass in several fields w/o proper precautions (dotting "i's" and crossing "t's" as well) to prevent its invasion and spread into other areas.
While 'chump change' to Scott's, the fine has sent an albeit 'whispered' message to them that they should have taken precautions and will have to do so in the future because APHIS allegedly will have its eye on this in the future.
Bentgrass is primarily used on golf courses. Golf courses, which by the way, in addition to creating the largest demand for biologically-engineered, weed-free grass, are also the most water-hungry and synthetic fertilizer-overfeed venues in the country.
